Thirty-five years after Disneyland’s opening day, the magical park entered the eighties. It was a new era that allowed Imagineers to further expand their talent.

Within the land of Critter Country, previously Bear Country, a new 87 feet mountain with a 52 feet drop was added, that of Splash Mountain. Now guest can cool off down the 47 degree angle of the fall at an impressive 40 miles an hour.

The Renaissance-style façade was taken down from Fantasyland and replaced with Bavarian-style architecture and a new attraction replaced the Mickey Mouse Theater, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey.

And off to the right in Tomorrowland two new innovative attractions were unveiled, both from director George Lucas, Star Tours, featuring the cast from Star Wars, and Captain EO staring the eighties icon, Michael Jackson.
